Pierre Leclercq

Background

Pierre Leclerq states that he has always been interested in architecture. ‘Family influence’, he says. But he has equally always been passionate about computing, even before joining the university, thus even before computing had become widespread amongst the general public. ‘I bought a micro-computer at the time’ he remembers, ‘a TRS, which cost a fortune and didn’t even have a hard disk! I thus studied architectural engineering to reconcile the two aspects.’

When he had graduated, Pierre Leclerq started working in architecture offices where, each time, he was bombarded with taking charge of the CAD system. 'It was thus the end of the 1980s and CAD was starting to take root amongst architects. But, in parallel, I had the chance of becoming Professor Dupagne’s assistant.’ As an assistant, he participated in the laboratory’s research, and then developed his own doctoral thesis, finished in 1996. This thesis already touched upon the key question which marks all of Pierre Leclerq's research: what is the computing work environment best suited to designers at the very first stages of their work? Today we know the answer.
