Plant life on earth earlier than originally thought

It would appear that vascular plants, the distant ancestors of today’s trees, appeared on the continents 30 million years earlier than scientists first thought: such are the conclusions of a study published in Science magazine, based on the analysis of minute traces left behind in the Arabian desert by these first terrestrial plants.

Interactions between hosts and parasites are enriching research trends in evolutionary biology: a parasite can teach us a lot about the history of its host. Caroline Nieberding, researcher at the ULg, has been studying the pair formed by field mice and one of their most faithful parasites.
