Olivier Michiels

Background

Olivier Michiels brilliantly pursued his law studies at the University of Liège from 1988 to 1993. Subsequently he was at first an assistant in the social law department and, from 2003, he became an assistant in the criminal law and criminal procedures department, working quarter time. He worked for three years as a lawyer at the Liège Bar (1993-1996), before launching into the magistrature: a legal trainee at the Liège Works Auditor, legal trainee at the Liège Court of First Instance, supply judge and then judge at the same court, from 2000. Since September 2007 he has been advisor to the Liège Court of Appeal. He has also been a supervising teacher at the University of Liège since 2005. He is the author of numerous publications, notably on criminal law procedure.
