An agricultural engineer, graduated from the Catholic University of Louvain in 1987, and with a Doctorate in Environmental Sciences from the Luxemburg Foundation University (1993), Bernard Tychon is currently works overseer at the Department of Environmental Management, in the University of Liège’s Faculty of Sciences (Arlon campus). There he has for eight years directed a research group of a small dozen people in agrometeorology. This group’s research has in particular led to the putting in place of a series of prediction tools for farmers. Beyond putting in place these tools in a number of European, African and Asian countries, Bernard Tychon and his team have also contributed to the training of the use of these tools, notably in Niger, Burkina Faso, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey and Afghanistan on behalf of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization). He is responsible for a full teaching load in agrometeorology, data processing and modelling, remote sensing and geographical information systems, and background ambient air pollution. He has published over a hundred scientific papers. Finally, he was the winner of the Outstanding Young Person Award of the Belgian Junior Economical Chamber in 2004 and he has since 2004 been Belgium’s representative at the European Agronomy Society.
