Background At the present time occupying a post as assistant the University of Liège’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine’s Theriogenology of production animals department, Léonard Theron has an untypical background. Having grown up in French Polynesia up until the age of sixteen, he came to Europe to embark on his university studies. He at first completed an undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Paris VII before entering the second candidate year in veterinary medicine at Liège. Graduated in 2007 he then had the opportunity to work with a rural clientele before being hired as an assistant in the University of Liège’s veterinary clinic’s Ruminant Centre. With deeply ingrained passions for the world of breeding and teaching (‘since always,’ he says), he carried on his research in the wake of his thesis, devoted to bovine mastisis and his work as an assistant in farm auditing, to improve the understanding of the risks of breeding diseases on the sociological as much as on the medical level.
