Bernard Peers

Background

After taking an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, Bernard Peers undertook a doctorate in the regulation of the prolactin gene in the laboratory of Professor Joseph Martial. Once he had defended his thesis in 1992, Bernard Pees flew to San Diego to work at the Salk Institute on the Pdx1 factor involved in the differentiation of pancreatic cells. It was there that he developed the taste for research into the development of the pancreas. At the end of his three years of postdoctoral study Bernard Peers rejoined Professor Martial’s laboratory in 1996, where he became a FNRS research associate. This laboratory is today part of the GIGA’s research unit, ‘Development, stem cells and regenerative medicine,’ for which Bernard Peers runs the research group on the development of the pancreas.
