Already, from the school years Igor Ivanov has always been passionate about the fundamental approach to nature which particle physics offers. He began his studies in physics at the State University of Novosibirsk in Russia. After his six years of Masters studies he left Russia for Germany: he pursued his research in particle physics at the Julich Research Centre and defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Bonn three years later. The first post-doctoral position led him to Italy in 2004, and the second to the University of Liège in 2006.

At the same time he is actively promoting physics to a general audience. He is invited to give lectures on physics and, to share his enthusiasm with school children and by their teachers or with a larger public interested in modern physics. Already since ten years he has been working online to make physics accessible to a general public.

Today, Igor Ivanov is an FNRS researcher, at the group “Fundamental interactions in physics and astrophysics” at the University of Liège. In 2009, he received the Bogoliubov prize for young researchers for his contribution to theoretical physics.
