Jean-Marie Klinkenberg

Background

Today a Professor Emeritus, Jean-Marie Klinkenberg has for a long time taught language sciences at the University of Liège. His work on rhetoric and semiotics – particularly visual signs – carried out by himself or within the context of Groupe μ, has authority on the international stage. At the University of Liège he has provided leadership for the oldest Centre for Quebec Studies in Europe and founded the Centre for Belgian Literature Studies. Very keen to explore domains as varied as general linguistics and linguistic and cultural politics, he has deeply revitalised our knowledge of francophone cultures. He is a member of the Belgian Royal Academy and, as President of the President of the Belgian French Language and Linguistic Policy Council, he is particularly concerned – working jointly with the representatives from France, Quebec, Switzerland and the Wallonia-Brussels Community – with the readability of public and private communications. Recommendations on the subject are made to the various governments concerned. Selection of publications
