Benoît Denis

Background

After having completed – under the supervision of Jacques Dubois – a thesis devoted to Jean-Paul Sartre and the origins of his conception of literary engagement, Benoît Denis became first assistant in the ULg’s department of Romance languages and literatures. His specialist areas are the history of twentieth century French literature, in particular the study of the links between literature and politics. He is also a specialist of Belgium’s francophone literature: with Professor Jean-Marie Klinkenberg, within the department he is currently working in, he directs the Centre for Belgian francophone literature studies (Celifrab), and with Paul Aron (ULB) leads the Inter-University Literary Studies Collective (Ciel), which has for seven years now been carrying out research on the social history of literature in Belgium. Finally, as Director for the University of Liège’s Centre for Georges Simenon studies, he has published prolifically on the subject of the writer from the Meuse basin city, notably in the form of critical editions.
