Benoît Kohl is a University of Liège law graduate and obtained a doctorate at the same university in 2008, with a thesis devoted to the prospects of a European harmonisation of building and property development law. He also has a Masters in Commercial Law, obtained in England at the University of Cambridge (LL.M., Cambridge University, 2005). In 1999 he also studied at the University of Neimegen (the Netherlands) within the Erasmus-Socrates Programme.

He is a lecturer in the University of Liège’s Faculty of Law, where he runs the obligations and contract law department. There he gives in particular courses on building law. Benoît Kohl also teaches a course on in depth commercial law at the University of Liège’s HEC-Management School and participates in the training of judicial expert candidates.

He is the author of a work devoted to European property development (Bruylant and L.G.D.J., 2008) as well as numerous other publications, notably in the fields of contract, obligations and building law.

Benoît Kohl is also a lawyer at the Brussels Bar (the Stibbe law firm); he focuses on property law and construction law in general. Beyond the negotiation of contracts, the drawing up of legal advice and the structuring of transactions in these matters, he participates in the resolving of law disputes before the legal authorities and in arbitration processes.

He has also been designated by the Order of the Francophone and Germanophone Bars as an expert attaché to the European Bar Association Council working group on ‘European Contract Law.’ He is in addition the government’s commissioner at the Institute of Judicial Training.
