Michel Frédérich

Background

Michel Frédérich is senior research fellow at FNRS (Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique), and senior lecturer at the pharmacy department of the University of Liège. He began his work there in 1996 by working on the antiplasmodial and anticarcinogenic properties of the Strychnos, a family of plants whose alkaloids were believed to fight malaria, and which had earlier been studied in the seventies for its curative properties by Professor Luke Angenot, the current director of the department. He based his doctoral thesis on the subject, entitled «Isolation and Determination of indole alkaloid structure. Study of their effect on Plasmodium falciparum» and his laureate thesis, entitled «Contribution to the study of natural substances with antiplasmodial and cytotoxic potential. Isolation, determination of structure by high magnetic nuclear resonance imaging, and pharmacological evaluation».
