Holder of a Diploma of General University Studies (DEUG) awarded by the University of Paris XI in 2002, Elodie Guirlet decided to specialise in marine biology and completed first a degree and then a Masters in the Biology of Organisms, Populations and Ecosystems at the University of La Rochelle. In 2005 she was awarded a Research Masters in the Ecology and Biology of Conservation at the Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon during which she began her work on the French Guyana sea turtles. From 2005 to 2008 she set about a doctorate under the supervision of Professor Marc Girondot at the University of Paris XI, and developed in her thesis the study of the different factors involved in the reduction of reproductive success in leatherback turtles. In September 2008, she defended her doctorate in ecology and eco-toxicology at the University of Paris XI’s ‘Ecology, Systématique and Evolution’ Laboratory, entitled ‘A study of the ecological and eco-toxicological factors involved in the reduction of incubation success in leatherback turtles, Dermochelys coriacea, in French Guyana.’ Since the 1st of October, 2008, she has been carrying out post-doctoral studies at the Oceanology Laboratory at the University of Liège.
