Krishna Das

Background

Krishna Das obtained her degree in zoological sciences at the University of Liège in 1996 and in complementary studies in oceanology the following years. In 1999, she began a doctorate thesis, under the supervision of Professor Jean-Marie Bouquegneau of the ULg’s Oceanology Laboratory, in which she developed more deeply her graduate degree dissertation: the contamination of sea mammals by heavy metals. This thesis was funded by the FRIA (Funds for Industry and Agriculture research).

In 1999 she carried out a three month stay at Montreal, where she took an interest in antibody immuno-specificity to rabbit, rat and beluga metallothioneins, at the INRS-Santé Montreal Institute. In 2003 and 2004 she took part in the Marie-Curie Fellowship programme helping young researchers’ mobility and carried out a post-doctoral study at the University of Kiel. From December 2004 onwards she was a FNRS Researcher. She studied the immunotoxicity of mercury, zinc and of the polychlorobiphenyls on the expression of several biomarkers in marine mammals at the Oceanology Laboratory, linked to the Mare Research Center, at the University of Liège. Since the 1st of October, 2008, Krishna Das is the holder of a Qualified Researcher mandate at the FRS-FNRS (Funds for Scientific Research). Her research area today is the comparative and multi-disciplinary study of the anthropogenic impact on marine vertebrates, research carried out at the Oceanology Laboratory at the University of Liège.
