Luciano Curreri

Background

Native of Sicily and Emilia-Romagna in Italy, Luciano Curreri, born in 1966, carried out his studies in modern languages and literature at the University of Turin, before beginning his career at the University of Savoy, at Chambéry, where he defended his thesis, published in French, in 2000, and which was already devoted in part to novelistic transition. After having worked as a ‘temporary teaching and research attaché’ at the University of Grenoble, Luciano Curreri went back to Italian universities, first at West Piemont, and then at Florence. His rather diverse carreer journey led him, in 2002, to the doors of the University of Liège where he was named professor of Italian language and literature in 2006.

In his teaching Luciano Curreri mixes the civilisation, culture, and history of his country’s language and literature. He always pursues the warp and weft of Italian literature through history, which he considers an essential pedestal to be integrated, at least from the foundation of Rome in 750 BC up until the present. To put this history into images, the teacher, who also leads a parallel life as a journalist for an Italian literature journal, is very willing to use cinema, another of his passions.
