Tatiana Art defended her doctoral dissertation in 1984 at the University of Liège, and is at present an instructor with the Physiology Service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the university. She is also the director of the Sports Medicine Center. Her fields of research are respiratory physiology of horses during exertion, the physiopathology and treatment of chronic respiratory illnesses and the physiology and muscular physiopathology of equine athletes.
Since 1985, the work done in her laboratory has improved scientific knowledge of the physiology of effort and methods for training horses. Her work first focused on the respiratory physiology of horses during exertion, and then turned toward the functional consequences of chronic respiratory illnesses upon the ability to exert effort. At present her research concerns the study of molecular mechanisms that cause respiratory and muscular problems which in turn cause horses to be unable to put forth efforts of certain kinds in sporting competition.
