Jules Gazon is a man of theory but also a man of action, renowned for combining research and top-level industrial experience. Initially, he was a maths teacher in secondary education before passing his PhD in economic sciences with distinction and the congratulations of the jury. He worked as an assistant lecturer in mathematical economics, and then oscillated between an academic career and corporate management. Among his many posts, he was the managing director of SA Tubemeuse (metallurgy) where he introduced what was known as the “Russian contract”, i.e. an order of FB 75 billion spread over five years. He was also the founding chairman of the Société de Gestion et de Participation S.A. (SGP Consultants) and an advisor at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, responsible for the restructuring of the Belgian steel industry in particular.

On the academic side, Jules Gazon was a professor at the University of Liège (chair for international and inter-regional economics), dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Social Sciences at the University of Liège and visiting professor at the University of Paris 1 – Sorbonne, within the context of the post-graduate course in industrial economics, and at the University of Tunis 3.
